Monticello, IL - For a donation to the Museum, a participant has the opportunity to spend 30 minutes observing and learning the operation of one of the Museum's diesel locomotives and spends the following 30 minutes running the locomotive under the supervision of a museum engineer. The locomotive used for the sessions may be the Wabash F-7 #1189, former Long Island Railroad Alco RS-3 #301, Milwaukee Road NW-2 #1649, or Canadian National FPA-4 #6789. More information about the train used for throttle time can be found on the website.
Participants must be at least 18-years-old and be physically able to enter the locomotive cab and operate the controls to participate in Throttle Time. Throttle Time sessions are conducted each Spring and Fall. You may also request a session after a Saturday session during our regular season (May - October) except on special event weekends.
