Austria - UNESCO WHS Semmering-Railway

Semmering-Railway Austria - The Semmering railway is a part of the southern railway (railway-km 75,0 to 116,7) leading from Vienna to Trieste (nowadays Italy) and was constructed by the state. With the help this approximately 42 km long railway line the high mountains of the Alps are crossed at the Semmering pass (985 m) at the culmination point in 898 m above sea level. This constituted until 1860 the worldwide highest attainable place for public railways.
