The Deutsches Museum is one of the biggest museums of technology and science in the world. It is not a state museum but an independent public institution. Under the terms of its constitution it has the right of self administration and functions under the protection and supervision of the Bavarian state government.
18 original locomotives, among them the legendary Bavarian express steam locomotive S 3/6 or the first diesel locomotive with hydrodynamic power transmission V140 are on display: Milestones in the history of railway traffic - the first magnetic levitation train can be found, too.
Additionally a large number of exhibits e.g. dealing with technical details of locomotives, track engineering or signalling and track safety can be found.
