History of 1800's Railway Brass Bands
The tradition of brass bands is also linked to our railroad heritage. Many of the brass bands were the first to greet the train as it arrived with visiting dignitaries. There were also many railway company bands. Antique brass instruments have been discovered with bell engravings that herald the ownership of a particular railway. One example of these is a cornet with the Erie Railroad name inscribed on the bell.

1934, when our founders sponsored what TRAINS Magazine has
called the world's first "railfan trip" on the now abandoned Hoosac

hundreds of railfan excursions, many of them over "freight only"
tracks. Whether your interest in railroading centers on rail
travel, photography, history, models or just a love of
trains, Mass Bay RRE may be for you!

Mt. Beacon Incline Railway Restoration Society
The Mt. Beacon Incline Railway once climbed 1,500 feet sharply up historic Mt. Beacon, and thrilled its passengers to spectacular views of the Hudson River Valley in the Hudson Highlands (where many of the great Hudson River artists were inspired). Located in Beacon New York, 60 miles north of New York City, it delighted thousands of people for over seventy five years until it was tragically destroyed by fire in 1983.
Entering into our fifth year of operation, the Incline Society is comprised of volunteers working to restore the railway. We are registered with the New York State Department of Education as a not-for-profit Historical Society

The official New York Central System Historical Society web site. The society was organized in March 1970 by the combined efforts of several people who were former employees of the New York Central System. The Society is chartered as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the state of Ohio. Our purpose is to preserve for posterity information and artifacts relating to the history of the New York Central System and its predecessor and subsidiary roads, and to make this material available to our members and other interested parties. Our collection of locomotive and car drawings is second to none. Prints of these drawings are much sought after by the serious modeler, and are available at a nominal cost. We have an extensive photograph collection, and copy photos of the passenger car section are now available.
