Alabama - Fort Payne Depot Museum
Fort Payne, AL - Fort Payne Depot Museum, presented by Landmarks of Dekalb County. Located in Northeast Alabama, our musuem, which is actually a train depot circa late 1800s, contains much more than railroad historical artifacts. Thanks to many donations from estates and businesses, we have artifacts from every war since the Civil War, items from the formation of our city, thousands of Indian artifacts (like arrowheads, baskets, and sculptures), and much more. Listed with the National Register of Historic Places, we are a popular tourist spot just minutes from heavily-visited Mentone and not much farther from cities like Birmingham, Chattanooga, and Atlanta

Alabama - The L&N Depot Museum
Foley, AL - The first depot was built on this site in 1905 when the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Line came to Foley. The railroad was once known as the Bay Minette and Fort Morgan Railroad. At that time, logging was an important industry in this area and the railroad was built to help move the timber out of the area.

The first depot that was built in 1905 burned to the ground in 1908. It was rebuilt and served as the center of activity for the community for many years.

In 1971, word was received that L & N was going to discontinue service to Foley and would destroy the building. John Snook, owner of Gulf Telephone Company bought the building for $1.00. He cut the depot and the freight area into two parts and moved them to Magnolia Springs. There it stayed for approximately twenty-four years and served as storage for Gulf Telephone. In the early nineties, Mr. Snook deeded the depot back to the city of Foley. In 1995, it was returned to the original site and renovations were begun to make the depot into a museum for the city.

The 1886 Frisco Depot will take you back in time to a bustling 1800s train depot. The Mammoth Spring Depot is one of only a few depots in the nation that have been restored as museums dedicated to interpreting their roles as train depots

California - The Centerville Depot
Centerville, CA - The inspiration to preserve the historic depot began with Fremont's petition to bring Amtrak service to Centerville in 1991. The petition worked. On June 4, 1993, Fremont welcomed the return of passenger trains to the Centerville station after an absence of 53 years. In December of 1993, the city of Fremont acquired ownership of the depot itself and began to plan its restoration. Of more than sixty "No. 23"-style depots constructed by Southern Pacific between 1896 and 1916, less than a dozen exist today and the Centerville depot is the only one used in rail passenger service.
