A Harvey House Home page
Hotels, Lunchrooms, Restaurants in the Old West. This page is my effort to collect as much information about the Fred Harvey Company and the Harvey Houses as exists on the Web. I'd like the site to be a clearinghouse of information about the Harvey Houses, with a section on each surviving Harvey House including photographs and a short essay on each. Finally, I'd like this site to be linked to other Harvey sites to encourage further restoration, rehabilitation and recyclng for new uses of these fine old buildings.

Arkansas - Choctaw, Oklahoma & Gulf freight station, Little Rock, Arkansas
Little Rock, AR - History and photographic tour of CO&G freight station, Little Rock, built in 1899. Building was destroyed in November 2001 to clear site for future Clinton Presidential Library, whose New York architectural firm saw no redeeming historical value in preserving the freight station along with the companion Choctaw passenger station.

Arthur U. Gerber-Chicago's Transit Architect
Welcome to the Arthur U. Gerber homepage! Gerber was a prolific and eclectic architect. His architectural legacy is not well-known these days and this web site hopes to provide information on Gerber and his contributions to society across three states. His buildings still continue to serve hundreds of thousands of commuters annually. To put Gerber's work in the proper context, it's important to understand the role played by business leader Samuel Insull in creating and assembling an empire of utility and transportation companies centered around Chicago.

Depots of the Southern Pacific System
I have seen the figure of approx. 10,000 possible 'place names' given for the Southern Pacific System, obviously not all of these places had Depots. On that basis alone, you will not see a big percentage of them featured here, and you are unlikely to see what you are looking for. I personally don't have many Depot photo's, so what you see here will be contributions by others.

Railway Clearing House (RCH) Maps and Junction Diagrams
The Railway Clearing House (RCH) Maps and Junction Diagrams are among the most fascinating source materials for British railway historians. These documents date from the time when the railways of Britain were run not as a single network, but as competing enterprises.

The RCH published maps of the railways, details of the working arrangements between the companies, and, relevant to these pages, diagrams of the junctions, annotated with measurements. Although these are essentially schematic diagrams, they are drawn with an eye on the true geography of the locations they describe, and in consequence, they can explain many puzzling features of modern railway layouts, as well as helping one to imagine how long-lost installations may have appeared.

Railway Station Database
References to published photographs of the Railway Stations of Great Britain and Ireland

I am certain that most enthusiasts with a collection of more than a few books will have experienced the frustation of knowing they have a particular photograph but cannot remember where they have seen it! When my own collection - particularly of magazines - reached a critical size, I had to concede that my memory was not up to the task of remembering such details and I decided to compile a Register covering my main railway interest : railway stations.
