Bermuda's Railway Trail
One of the best ways to explore Bermuda is along the Railway Trail. The last train has long since departed, leaving the route of the Bermuda’s former railroad to walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

The railway, affectionately known as ‘Old Rattle and Shake’, began its short existence in 1931 and, per mile, was the most expensive railway ever built. An economic disaster, it was closed in 1948 and the rolling stock shipped off to British Guiana.

The remaining Florida Keys Overseas Highway and Flagler Railroad Bridges, completed in 1912 were listed on the National Registry on August 3, 2004, which includes all 23 Bridges and is an important aspect of the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail Project, bringing National recognition and prestige to our community.

The rehabilitation of the Flagler Railroad Bridges and the 2 mile segment of the old 7 Mile span to Pigeon Key, will ensure the survival of these monuments of the Florida Key's Rich Railroad and Cultural History. Rehabilitating the old 7 Mile Bridge, which is the only means of access to Historic Pigeon Key, is part of the "Community Vision" that will preserve the Historical Bridge as a part of a Scenic Multi-use Recreational Greenway that permits various forms of outdoor exercise, as well as sightseeing, fishing, kayaking, and spectacular sunsets and scenic views. The Old Seven Mile Bridge was once considered the “Eighth Wonder of the World”.

Lake Minneola Scenic Trail - Clermont Trail
Though these were actually constructed as separate trails, one is a direct continuation of the other along the same lake. This is a very pleasant, mostly urban trail, with higher hills than any other rail trail in Florida. Though they’re only on the east end, and don't really require very much effort, they can still produce some fast speeds on the downhills. The lake views on the western side are spectacular during sunsets and very pretty the rest of the time. Though subject to high winds during storms, this is a nice trail for all levels of riders and will become particularly attractive for long rides when connected to the West Orange Trail in the east and General James A. Van Fleet State Trail in the west. This is also one of the few trails with streetlights on most portions.
