Milepost 1147.2 -- Railfanning on the BNSF Stockton Subdivision
Milepost 1147.2 is a location on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad's Stockton Subdivision that runs between Calwa (Fresno) and Richmond, California. It also happens to be the point at which our house is located in Oakley. No, we don't live under the tracks, but our back fence sits about 50 feet north of the mainline at the Big Break Road grade crossing — Milepost 1147.2.

Montana Film Office - Private Railroads
If usable tracks, engines and cars are what you seek, look to the dramatic landscape of Montana. Private railroads chug over trestles, through tunnels, across badlands and along mountain ranges. When these trains roll down the track, they take you not just through pristine valleys and tidy little towns, but into the rail yards and back doors of gritty urban centers. Click one of the links below to view photos of these railroads.

Motels for Train Watchers
The original "Motels for Train Watchers" printed guide was the creation of our friend, Ken Bordelon, who compiled a listing of hotels, motels and inns located directly on rail lines in the United States with views of the tracks from at least some of the rooms. With his help (namely, his August 1998 list) and good wishes, we have brought this information to the Internet.

New Brighton, Pennsylvania
New Brighton, Pennsylvania is the location of one of the Pennsylvania Railroad's more remarkable engineering feats; a Flyover that allows two heavy duty parallel mainlines to diverge without operationally cumbersome crossovers and turnouts. The park itself is sandwiched between the old PRR mainlines and the Beaver River. It features the usual picnic tables, picnic shelters, and park benches that afford a great view of the Beaver Valley.
